In the spring of 2000, we began creating our Schoolyard Habitat. The place we chose was just a grassy place in the schoolyard. Community members and local businesses donated trees, shrubs, and plants. White Rock donated large slabs of rock and students broke the rock into smaller pieces. The rock was used to build a wall around our future pond and to border the gardens. Students worked hard that spring. The pond was filled with topsoil, trees, shrubs and plants were planted, and the garden was mulched.
